DESCRIPTION:Location: Labyrinth Books\, Princeton \nMore Info \nLabyrinth Books together with Princeton’s Creative Writing Program and Program in African Studies invite you to come out for a poetry reading by South Africa’s Second Poet Laureate. \nIn 1961 Kgositsile was one of the first young members of the African National Congress (ANC) instructed to leave the country by the leadership of the national liberation movement. During his years of exile in the US (1962-1975)\, he became a central figure among African-American poets and particularly within the pan-African movement. \nA strong feature of his work is the recognition and celebration of his influences\, his friendships with other artists and\, in particular\, his deep love of blues and jazz. He has taught poetry throughout the U.S. and South Africa. Professor Kgositsile remains an active voice in South African politics and culture. He is the author of numerous books\, including The Present is a Dangerous Place to Live\, To the Bitter End\, and Approaches to Poetry Writing Poetry.

DESCRIPTION:Official website: http://slc.edu/poetry-festival/ \nThe Ninth Annual Sarah Lawrence College Poetry Festival\, which will be held on April 20 to 22\, 2012 at the Sarah Lawrence College campus in Bronxville\, New York\, is the largest free poetry festival in New York State. Entirely student-run\, the festival will feature some 16 leading poets including 2011 National Book Award winner\, Nikky Finney. \nReadings by winners of the SLC High School Poetry Competition\, followed by poets Suzanne Gardinier\, Monica de la Torre\, and Bernadette Mayer\, will start off the festival on Friday evening. \nSaturday will feature a book fair including various small presses and book shops. Afternoon readers will include Craig Dworkin\, Kevin Pilkington\, Farrah Field\, Joshua Marie Wilkinson and Vievee Francis. On Saturday evening\, there will be a dinner reception for all festival goers\, followed by a reading by Rachel McKibbens. The evening will conclude with readings by John Whitworth and Caroline Bergvall. \nSunday’s program includes a panel discussion and readings by Mathias Svalina\, Ben Lerner\, Nikky Finney\, Rachel Eliza Griffiths and Li-Young Lee. LUMINA\, the annual literary journal featuring the work of SLC graduate students\, will also be launching its latest issue with Michael Klein.
