DESCRIPTION:Michael Dickman — Green Migraine: Poems; Followed by a reading from CK Williams’ Selected Later Poems\nTuesday\, December 1st\, 2015 at 6PM — Labyrinth Books Princeton\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“My master plan is happiness\,” writes Michael Dickman in his wonderfully strange third book\, Green Migraine. Here\, imagination and reality swirl in the juxtaposition between beauty and violence in the natural world. Drawing inspiration from the verdant poetry of John Clare\, Dickman uses hyper-real\, dreamlike images to encapsulate\, illustrate\, and illuminate how we access internal and external landscapes. The result is nothing short of a fantastic\, modern-day fairy tale. \nMichael Dickman teaches poetry at Princeton University’s Lewis Center for the Arts. He is the author of The End of the West and Flies\, which won the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets. \n  \nIn honor of C.K. Williams\, Michael Dickman\, Jeff Dolven\, James Richardson\, Susan Stewart\, Tracy Smith\, and Susan Wheeler will each read a poem from Williams’ Selected Later Poems\, which appeared in September.

Cavafy\n& Selected Poems and Translations \nRespondent: Karen Emmerich\, Comparative Literature  \nGEORGE ECONOMOU is the author of fifteen books of poetry and translations\, most recently Unfinished and Uncollected: Finishing Cavafy’s Unfinished Poems & Selected Poems and Translations (2015)\, as well as Complete Plus\, The Poems of C. P. Cavafy in English\, Ananios of Kleitor\, and Acts of Love\, Ancient Greek Poetry from Aphrodite’s Garden. He has published many translations from Ancient and Modern Greek and medieval European languages\, including Langland’s Piers Plowman. The author of The Goddess Natura in Medieval Literature\, he has published numerous articles\, critical reviews and essays\, as well as editions of the late Paul Blackburn’s troubadour translations\, Proensa\, and The Poem of the Cid. A Rockefeller Fellow at Bellagio\, he has been named twice as a National Endowment for the Arts Fellow in Poetry. In 2000\, he retired\, after 41 years of teaching at the University of Oklahoma\, where he was department chair of English from 1983-90 and director of Creative Writing from 1990-2000\, and at Long Island University\, Hunter College and Columbia in New York.
