DESCRIPTION:Liberty\, Listening: ‘The New Colossus’ and the Poetry of Immigration \nA talk by Esther Schor \n\n\n\n\n\nMONDAY\, MAY 7\, 2018 –  \n4:30PM TO 6:00PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA71 LOUIS A. SIMPSON INTERNATIONAL BUILDING\n\n\n  \nEsther Schor is professor of English and Acting Chair of the Humanities Council\, Inaugural Behrman Professor at Princeton University.  Her courses revolve around two centers: British Romanticism; and Literature\, Scripture and Religion. \nShe is the author of several books\, including Bearing the Dead: The British Culture of Mourning from the Enlightenment to Victoria (1994) and edited (or co-edited) the Cambridge Companion to Mary Shelley\, The Other Mary Shelley: Beyond “Frankenstein” (1993)\, and Women’s Voices: Visions and Perspectives(1990). She recently published Bridge of Words:  Esperanto and the Dream of a Universal Language (2016). Her biography Emma Lazarus (2006) won the National Jewish Book Award. Her poems have appeared in two volumes:  Strange Nursery (2012) and The Hills of Holland (2002).  She received her Ph.D. from Yale University. \nMigration and Human Values Lecture Series \nThe Migration and Human Values Lecture Series features five prominent researchers in the humanities and the social sciences reflecting on the ethical implications of migration.  Each lecture is an opportunity for academics\, policy thinkers\, students and other interested citizens to reach beyond available data and partisan positions to contemplate the broader meaning of population flows.
