“Bringing the War to Brooklyn”

Veterans Matt Gallagher (author of Kaboom), Matt Mellina, and Maurice Decaul bring the funky taste of battle to Williamsburg—with fiction and poetry. Your drunk uncle’s war stories were never this good.

Matt Gallagher is the senior writing manager of the nonprofit organization Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), and spent 15 months in Iraq with the U.S. Army as an armored cavalry officer. He is the author of the war memoir Kaboom, and is currently pursuing his MFA in fiction at Columbia.

Matthew Mellina served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist and Calvary Scout with the 4th ID from 2001 to 2007, including a deployment to Iraq in 2006. Currently he is working on his first novel. His work has been featured on Newsweek.com and Slate.

Maurice Decaul is a writer from Brooklyn. He is in his final year at Columbia University, where he is studying writing. Prior publications include the New York Times, Sierra and Mouvement. His poetry has been translated to French and Arabic. Maurice served in the Marines.
