About the Poets:

Dr. Anthony Joseph F.R.S.L. is an award winning Trinidad-born poet, novelist, academic and musician. He is the author of five poetry collections and three novels. His 2018 novel Kitch: A Fictional Biography of a Calypso Icon was shortlisted for the Republic of Consciousness Prize, the Royal Society of Literature’s Encore Award and the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Fiction. His most recent fiction publication is the experimental novel The Frequency of Magic. In 2019, he was awarded a Jerwood Compton Poetry Fellowship. As a musician, he has released eight critically acclaimed albums, and in 2020 received a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Composers Award. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a Lecturer in  Creative Writing at Kings College, London. His 2022 collection Sonnets for Albert won the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry 2022 and the OCM BOCAS Prize for Caribbean Poetry. A collection of his selected works, Precious and Impossible: Selected Poems, was published in 2024.

Jive Poetic is a writer, organizer, and educator based in Brooklyn, New York. His work has been showcased on PBS News Hour, BET, and season four of TVONE’s Lexus Verses and Flow. International recognition and support for his work has come from the British Arts Council; U.S. Embassies in Australia, Brazil, and Poland; and the Minister Of Culture in Antigua and Barbuda. Jive is the founder of Insurgent Poets Society, Carnival Slam: Cultural Exchange, and the co-founder of the Brooklyn Poetry Slam. In 2017, Jive was the first recipient of the John Morning Award for Art and Service. When he is not on tour, Jive teaches poetry and hip-hop workshops to at-risk youth in New York City and the surrounding area. Jive received his BA in Media Studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his MFA in Writing and Activism from Pratt Institute. His memoir, Skip Tracer, was published in 2024.

Terrance Hayes’s most recent publications include a collection of poems, So To Speak, and collection of essays, Watch Your Language, that were published by Penguin in 2023. Earlier publications include American Sonnets for My Past And Future Assassin (Penguin, 2018) and To Float In The Space Between: Drawings and Essays in Conversation with Etheridge Knight (Wave, 2018). To Float In The Space Between was winner of the Poetry Foundation’s 2019 Pegasus Award for Poetry Criticism and a finalist for the 2018 National Book Critics Circle Award in Criticism.  American Sonnets for My Past And Future Assassin won the Hurston/Wright 2019 Award for Poetry and was a finalist the 2018 National Book Critics Circle Award in Poetry, the 2018 National Book Award in Poetry, the 2018 TS Eliot Prize for Poetry, and the 2018 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. Hayes is a Silver Professor of English at NYU.
