Contemporary Poetry Reading Group Meeting
November 7, 2012 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join the Contemporary Poetry Reading Group for an evening of reading, wine, and discussion surrounding the poetry of J.H. Prynne‘s book Wound Response.
At the end of the first session, there was unanimous agreement that we should devote ourselves to the rest of that book. The next session will focus on the book’s second poem, ‘The Blade Given Back’. For scans of the poems, please contact Orland Reade: osxr@princeton.edu
The next meeting will be on Wednesday November 7th, 7.00 – 8.30 pm in room 105, Chancellor Green Library. As before, no prior reading or specialist knowledge is required.
J.H. Prynne (born UK, 1936) has published more than thirty books of poems over the last fifty years, which must count among the most challenging poetry written in English. His youthful association with Charles Olson, close friendship with Ed Dorn, and criticism of Language Poetry give his work particular relevance to American poetry. Prynne is a reader emeritus at the University of Cambridge, life fellow of Gonville and Caius College, honorary professor at the University of Sussex, and Guest Professor at Sun Yat-sen University, China. The third edition of his collected Poems was published in 2005, and his Selected Poems translated into Chinese in 2010. He has published book-length commentaries on single poems by Wordsworth, Shakespeare and Herbert.
