Issue N°7 Launch Party & Panel

Our seventh issue includes a wide range of works translated from 15 languages, including poetry and fiction by Andreas Embirikos, Aleksandr Pushkin, Raymond Queneau, Jonah Rosenfeld, and Ezequiel Zaidenwerg. In Other Words: Talking About Translation

David Bellos has translated numerous authors, including Georges Perec, Fred Vargas, Ismail Kadare, and Georges Simenon. Bellos is the author of Is That A Fish in Your Ear? Translation and the Meaning of Everything (2011). He won the Man Booker International Prize for translation in 2005 and holds the rank of Officier des Arts et des Lettres. He is Professor of French and Italian and Comparative Literature, and Director of the Program in Translation and Intercultural Communication at Princeton University.

Chris Clarke has translated In the Café of Lost Youth by Nobel Prize-winner Patrick Modiano (NYRB Classics), as well as works by Pierre Mac Orlan and Oulipo members Raymond Queneau and Olivier Salon. He received a PEN/Heim Translation Grant for his translation of Marcel Schwob’s Imaginary Lives. He is a doctoral candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center and a member of the Outranspo.

Natasha Wimmer is best known for her translations of the works of Chilean novelist Roberto Bolaño, including 2666 and The Savage Detectives. She has also translated works by Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa, as well as Gabriel Zaid, Rodrigo Fresán, and Pedro Juan Gutiérrez. Wimmer is the recipient of an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the PEN Translation Award, and the National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship. Wimmer teaches translation at Princeton and lives in New York City.
